How to apply tags to items

All tags must have your unique identification code printed on them so that we can identfiy you if your item is ever lost and recovered. Applying identification tags is usually very straight forward but there are some 'best practices' to ensure your tags remain clear and legible for as long as possible. Also ensure that you are using the correct tag for your item. Bags, keys & buggies should have key rings or bag tags and other items should have labels.

Select the most suitable tag type for your item

Bicycle / cycle

Any of our stick-on labels can be applied to a bicycle but it is important to ensure the surface you apply the label to is clean and free of grease. The best position for the label is on the seat tube or down tube where it is unlikely to be affected by any wear or come into contact with another surface. Alternatively, you could use a bag tag but ensure it is looped around part of the cycle that is away from moving mechanical parts.

Braclet/bangle

Only our small stick-on labels are suitable for items like this as the space for application is usually small. It is best to apply the label on the outside of a bracelet if that's possible, to reduce any wear from continuous rubbing.

Book / diary / passport etc.

Apply a stick-on label to the outside cover if possible as it will most likely be seen easily that way. Alternatively, apply the label to the inside cover somewhere prominant and obvious.

Buggy / pram / push-chair

Any of our stick-on labels can be applied to a buggy/pram but it is important to ensure the surface you apply the label to is clean and free of grease. The best position for the label is on solid structural elements that are unlikely to be affected by any wear or movement. Alternatively, you could use a bag tag ensuring it is looped around part of the buggy that won’t interfere with it being wheeled or folding.

Car key-fob

We recommend using one of our key rings for car keys as they can survive knocks and drops. If your car key can't be attached to a key ring, you could also apply a stick-on label.

Camera (without strap)

You can use our stick-on labels to apply on to a flat, non-textured surface of your camera. You should locate the label in a position that won't interfere with the operation of the camera or block any ventilation/operational holes.

Camera (with strap)

If you'd prefer not to stick a label onto your camera, you can also use loop one of our bag tags around your camera strap.

Clothing

Our stick-on labels can also be applied to clothing and can survice normal washes providing you apply the labels correctly. Our stick-on labels should only by attached to an intact and smooth clothing care label. We recommend the use of our iron-on backing sheets that can be positioned in most undisturbed areas on an item of clothing. The iron-on backing sheets are permanent and provided a smooth surface for our standard labels (this includes label designs and name tags) to adhere to. They also allow for the removal and replacement of labels later on if required. Clothing must not be washed for at least 24 hours (48 recommended) after the application of stick-on labels to ensure the adhesive has gained most of its strength.

Credit card/membership card

Any of our stick-on labels can be used on credit cards or similar items. Ensure the label doesn't obstruct parts of the card that need to be read by a card reader, for example the magnetic strip or chip. Also ensure you don't cover up any information that you'll need from the card itself.

Cuddly toy

Use a premium stick-on label (standard size). The label should ideally be afixed to the toy wash tag or if there isn't one, find the flatest smoothest area possible. *You should not apply a label to a cuddly toy that is used by a child under 3 years of age as the label could be pulled off the fabric easily and become a choking hazard.

Diary / book

This should be applied somewhere where it will be easily seen, ideally on the outside or inside cover. Avoid sticking the label anywhere where there is likely to be bending, for example near the spine.

Handbag

Use any of our straps. Our straps are designed to be difficult to pull off once fitted. They should be applied around bag handles/straps so they rest neatly and unobtrusively. Alternatively, you could apply a premium stick-on label ensuring it is positioned somewhere visible, for example on an existing tag or area designated for labels.

Key(s)

Use any of our key-fobs as they can survive harsh mechanical abuse regularly. Do not obstruct the surface of the key-fob to ensure the text is clearly legible. You could also use a bag tag if required. Bag tags have a much larger loop so they can accommodate more keys but ensure the ends are securely fastened. Unlike a key ring, it is much easier for keys to fall off a bag tag strap if the strap isn't tightly fastened.

Jewellery

Our smaller stick-on labels are suited for items of jewellery as space for label application may be limited. For items like watches, you can position a stick-on label on the rear bezel where it will be well protected in normal use.

Laptop / computer / electronic device

Our larger stick-on labels are well suited for items like these. They can be applied to any flat surface but ensure their application doesn't block any air vents, indicators or accessible items like card slots, drives and buttons.

Shoes / trainers

You can apply a stick-on label to the insole of the show near the heel - this is where they will be most visible. The continuous pressing down of your foot will ensure the label remains firmly fixed. Alternatively, stick-on labels can be applied to the inside of the tongue.

Toys

You can apply a stick-on label anywhere suitable and obviously visible but ensure the surface is smooth and flat.

Umbrella

You can apply a stick-on label on the handle ensuring the surface is smooth and flat. Alternatively, you can also use a bag tag around part of the umbrella that will not interfere with how it folds or unfolds.

Wallet / pursh

You can apply a stick-on label on the handle ensuring the surface is smooth and flat. Alternatively, you can also use a bag tag around part of the umbrella that will not interfere with how it folds or unfolds.

Wallet/purse

Use any of our stick-on labels (larger labels recommended) and position them where they will be easily seen (ideally on an opening flap/inside fold). Ensure the surface is smooth, flat and clean.

Other items

Our stick-on labels are suited to pretty much anything providing the surface is smooth and flat.
